Information Released on Raid Title, Start Time for Destiny 2: Lightfall
Upon the launch of the new Destiny 2 expansion, Lightfall, Bungie has released the official name of the accompanying raid, and when it will be available for the start of the world’s first race. In the past, the raids have been a source of great revelations in the game’s lore, as seen in Vow of the Disciple. The world’s first race is one of the most important events of the year, as hundreds of teams come together to take on the newest challenges from Bungie.
The launch of Lightfall in Destiny 2 is set to be a major event, as foretold by the Vow of the Disciple’s prophecy wall. Players will be able to witness the Witness communing with the Traveler, as seen in the trailer and ViDoc. All will join the conflict in the city of Neomuna, in an attempt to thwart the Witness’ invasion led by Calus, to find an artifact of immense power hidden in the city.
As the launch of Lightfall draws closer on February 28, Bungie has unveiled the name of the upcoming raid, The Root of Nightmares, along with an image. The image depicts six guardians standing in a place resembling the insides of the Pyramid ships, though this one is rife with mysterious, lush vegetation. Apart from that, the only additional information about the raid is the short description on the official Lightfall webpage, which alludes to an “ancient threat developing at our doorstep.”
Bungie declared that the raid would be available at 9 AM PST/12 PM EST on March 10, which was ten days after the launch of Lightfall. Similar to all the other raids since Garden of Salvation, the raid will be available on the weekend to facilitate the maximum amount of players. However, unlike the preceding raids, Contest Mode will be running for 48 hours instead of the usual 24 hours, thereby allowing players who may not have the chance to play on the opening day to still experience the difficulty of the mode.
Players may be wondering who the central boss of the new raid could be and the title could provide a clue. Past lore from Season of the Haunted and Season of Plunder has hinted at Nezarec, a character that Bungie has been teasing for years, being connected to the Moon’s Nightmares. This has sparked speculation that Nezarec may be making an appearance in some way to help or oppose the Witness. For now, this is all speculation and we’ll just have to wait until the raid goes live to find out.
Destiny 2 can be played on PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
